What is Sports Development?
The aim of Sports Development is to create, strengthen and promote sporting opportunities across a community or region.
Who is involved?
In North West Leicestershire, we have a variety of partners who work together in order to ensure successful Sports Development in the district. These partners include North West Leicestershire District Council, Sport England, Active Together, National Governing Bodies, North West Leicestershire School Sports Partnership (NWLSSP), Everyone Active and other local leisure centres, our sporting clubs and organisations, and our local schools and community organisations.
Sports development is carried out across all levels of sport, from grassroots to elite pathways.

What do we do?
There are many ways our team and partners work to further sports development in the district. Some of these include:
- Creating or supporting opportunities to participate in sport across all levels
- Provide education and training to volunteers
- Community and school engagement in sport
- Projects to target specific demographics to get involved in sport
- Education and assistance on applying for funding to support clubs and organisations

'I work for North West Leicestershire District Council and it is my role to support clubs and partners wherever needed to help facilitate the best opportunities for Sports Development in the district. I have lived locally my entire life, and have 3 children who all love being active and getting involved in sport and physical activity in the area. I myself only got active in 2020 during the first lockdown, and understand the huge benefits that physical activity and sport can provide to mental and physical health and making our communities stronger.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to reach out.'
